Margaret Rose Simpson

Margaret Rose Simpson (née Machan)

Peacefully in Toronto, December 30, 2023.

Margaret was born May 21, 1937, the youngest of 6 children, to Eva Jane (Smith), and Edward David Machan of Atwood.

Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her children, MaryJane Collins (Bob) of Toronto, Paul Simpson (Doris) of Calgary, and John Simpson of Cape Coral. As well, she will be missed by her grandchildren, Sean Smeaton-Collins (Kerri), Stuart Collins, Ashley Simpson (Brandon), Sarah Cortes (Franco), JT Simpson, and Katlyn Simpson (Blake) along with 2 great-grandchildren, Luca and Ava Cortes and many other nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her in-laws Margaret Ann and Gordon Dickieson, and Ross Clarkson.

She was preceded in death by her husband (Robert John Simpson, December 28, 1997) as well as all of her older siblings, Donald and Douglas Machan, Lavar Snyder, Delores Clarke, and Reta Armstrong.

Marg met Bob Simpson (the love of her life) while nursing in Toronto and went on to have a lengthy nursing career in Guelph, Mount Forest, and Kitchener. She switched to Real Estate in the 1980’s and was successful in that endeavor as well.  After Bob died, Margaret learned to enjoy travelling the world with friends and family and became very involved in her church (Westheights Community Church, Kitchener) where she supervised the library for many years and made many good friends, notably Meg Slater and Pia Kozaris.

Margaret was a gracious hostess, and a marvelous cook. She loved to shop, go to theatre and cuddle her doggies (first Scooter and then Jenny).

Cremation has already taken place. A celebration of life will be held in the Spring of 2024. Arrangements entrusted to England Funeral Home, Mount Forest.

Many thanks to staff at Lanark Retirement Home, Kitchener and Castleview Wychwood Long Term Care, Toronto.

As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Margaret to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or Westheights Community Church.

Condolences

Sorry to hear of Margs passing. We were nursing classmates at Guelph General Hospital School of Nursing 1955 to 1958. I saw Marg many times over the years at our annual nursing banquet. I will pass the word on to other classmates. May she rest in peace. A lovely lady.

We were sorry to hear of Marg’s passing and know she will be missed. We enjoyed cruising to and touring Alaska with her and her sister Lavar and husband Dave. Marg and Bob were wonderful hosts to several family reunions held at their Mount Forest home….gatherings we all enjoyed and fondly remember.
Our condolences to all her family..May she rest in Peace.

Understanding what a loss this is for the family and sending warmest thoughts of deepest sympathy. I enjoyed working with Marg at the nursing home in Mount Forest. She was a kind and compassionate nurse who always made time for residents, staff and friends.
