Robert "Robbie" Laird McCarthy

February 24, 2024

Robert

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face.

The rains fall soft upon your fields.

Until we meet again.

With heavy and broken hearts.

McCarthy, Robert Laird “Robbie” – Passed away with family by his side on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the age of 56. Born in Ottawa, but forever and always a “Proton-Egremont” boy at heart.

Beloved husband of Kim Marie McCarthy (née Van Alstine). Proud and loving father of Joshua McCarthy (Deanna Cook) and Rachel McCarthy (Brandon Wagg). Loving brother of Mike McCarthy, Dan (Deb) McCarthy, the late Sean (Pam) McCarthy, Jim (Jen) McCarthy, Bruce McCarthy, Maureen (Johnnie) O’Connell, Tim (Christine) McCarthy, Bonnie (Richard) Amyotte, the late Les (Johanne) McCarthy, Frances (Dwayne) Krueger, Marion (Gary) Williams, Terry (Lyn) McCarthy.

Son-in-law of Gertie and the late Ron Van Alstine. Brother-in-law to Carol Ann (Murray) Rice, Erica (John) Shortreed and Bruce Van Alstine. Robbie will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews, his friends at Zettel-Fischer Contracting Ltd, Tuesday and Friday night darts, the Flyers baseball team, Legion, and his hunting crew. He will be especially missed by the other coolest guy in Mount Forest, Dan “Rammer” (Shelley) Cameron.

Robbie was predeceased by his parents Don McCarthy, Mona McCarthy (née Shaw) and Al Reynolds, brothers Sean McCarthy and Les McCarthy, father-in-law Ron Van Alstine, niece Sarah McCarthy and nephew Joe Amyotte.

Robbie said you only live life once so enjoy it. He was blessed with many road trips, was an angler at heart, and loved to socialize by sharing stories and memories of friends.

A Come and Go Celebration of Robbie’s Life will be held at the Mount Forest Legion, Branch 134, 140 King Street West, Mount Forest on Sunday, March 10th from 12:00-5:00 p.m. All guests are encouraged to wear casual clothing. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Robbie are asked to consider the Louise Marshall Hospital, Oncology Unit.

From Robbie to you:

May good and faithful friends be yours wherever you may roam. May luck be your friend in whatever you do and may trouble be always a stranger to you. May the winds of fortune sail you, may you sail a gentle sea, may it always be the other guy who says this drink’s on me.
