Very sorry to learn of Hugh's passing. I am a lifelong musician and I will always remember Hugh on CKNX Circle 8 Ranch and also seeing the Ranch Boys driving past our family farm on their way to Sauble Beach Pavilion when I was out working in the fields on a summer night, now some years ago. I have gotten to know Sue and Al Widmeyer and their friendship which I greatly value.

Hugh will be missed by so many people. I know that my life was a much richer place after meeting Hugie! When I worked at Birmingham, he used to come and sing for the residents, and at Saugeen, he did so well to sing and play when he felt like he was able to! My thoughts are with the family who have lost someone who not only was a wonderful man, but a great inspiration to so many who had the pleasure of getting to know him! Rest in peace my friend! Love always, your sweet Diane

Dear Beth & Family, Please accept our sincere condolences with the loss of Hughie. We have such fond memories of going out to the Elder farm with mom(Barb Tregunna) Watson and dad Les Watson. My older brother Tom was here from Alberta in April as our mom was ill at the hospital here in Mt. Forest and passed away on April 27th. Tom, my younger brother Doug and I went to see Hughie at the nursing home as he had an old photo for Tom of when dad, Hughie,Jerry,Helen and someone else, I can`t remember who all played music together. What a treasure it is for us to have that. We made copies for all of us and returned the photo to Hughie at the nursing home on May fourth I think it was. We had a nice visit that day. He will be missed by you and many others. Thoughts and prayers are with you all. He was such a wonderful kind soul. God Bless you all.

Hugh Elder led a life that all of us can aspire to. He was a committed father and husband , an educator, community leader, and a loyal friend to all that knew him. Hugh entertained us through music, led us with his charisma, and inspired us through his actions. Personally, I will always cherish the memories I have of listening to Hugh's music, hunting deer with him in the hills of Normanby, and on more than just a few occasions , indulging myself in he and Beth's hospitality. If I have a good quote in mind for Hugh Elder's life it would have to be from Churchhill and it goes; "We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give." Hugh - Here's to you for fighting the good fight !! Love the Macs

To the Elder family it was with great sadness that we heard the passing of Hugh. Such a wonderful talented, kind and carring gentleman. We met Hug, Beth and some of his family when we were at Silent Valley Park. We sharred some wonderful fun times. Always enjoyed when he played at Ayton and Jerry would always make sure Hugh played "Wheels" at least 3 times. I grew up watching Circle 8 Ranch. Little did I know that someday I would end up going to high school and becoming friends with the daughter of that guy with the two curls on his forehead that I watched on t.v. As Linda's "Barn Dance Groupie", showing up and surprising her at the Barn Dances, I always enjoyed hearing her sing with her Dad. I have many great memories (and photos). He will be greatly missed.

— Leah Bernard-McKinnon, May 24, 2012

His smile, his big sweet smile is what I will remember the most. I have so many snap shots of memories. Yes we have lost a great man who had a huge heart but it is his greatness and love that will in coming days bring smiles to our faces. He would not want you to be sad but be happy for all the years of laughter, song and love that was had. I love you all so very much.

— Jennifer Foley, May 24, 2012

My Dear Elders, There are no words to express the loss of this wonderful man. Although not family by blood, I will deeply miss my "Uncle Hughie" and fondly look back at all the memories we made up at the farm. All my love, Jane the Pain
