Condolences

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time Norine. Mike always had a friendly word, always asked about my biking, and always was so selfless. We had plans to come to the service this morning but the forecast came true and the weather was horrible. All the best and I hope you can now find some Peace, and may your music continue to be an inspiration and a consolation.

Dear Norinne & family - sorry to hear about Mike's passing. Mike and I became fast friends when we were both elected to County Council for the first time in 2003. We both stood up for the taxpayers. I don't think I will ever forget Mike arguing for lower taxes by stating, repeatedly, that he had been a Councillor for 18 years and he had never seen a budget process like this. He made the Warden crazy! He was a really dedicated and hard working guy. I'm sorry that I can't attend but I've recently been released from hospital and am just recovering.

I had the privilege of working with Mike for 4 years in Wellington North, in my first job as a Municipal Administrator. For the first year he was a Councillor who often voted against the rest of Council. He then became Mayor for 2 terms and led the municipality through many significant changes. While we did not always see eye to eye on everything, Mike was always in jovial spirits and always had the best interests of the community as his number one priority. I will always remember those years in Wellington North and Mayor Mike with fondness. Anja

— Anja Nurvo, February 11, 2016

Sincere condolences to Mike's entire family at this very sad time of saying goodbye. He contributed greatly to his community - first Mount Forest and then Wellington North. And faced many challenges with passion and a great smile! May your memories be a source of strength at this time and may you share those memories over the next few days in celebration of Mike's life. I regret that I will be unable to attend the services this week.

The world is a little darker without a Sprite like Mike. We didn't always see eye to eye when we worked together but as I told him when he was first elected Mayor I knew my home town was in good hand. Mike was one of the Good Guys. He will be missed. All the Best I know the next couple years will be hard, But knowing how great a guy he was should make it a little easier

OUR DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY. "LOSING" A LOVED ONE NEVER GETS EASIER. WHILE OUR RESOLVE TO SEE THEM AGAIN GROWS, SO DOES OUR UNDERSTANDING THAT WE NEVER "LOST" THEM FOREVER. WE MISS THEM TERRIBLY WHILE WE'RE STILL HERE VISITING, BUT WE'LL SEE THEM WHEN WE GET HOME. HOLD ON TO ALL THINGS YOU KNOW ABOUT MIKE, AND WHEN IT'S TIME TO MEET FACE TO FACE AGAIN, HE’LL BE WAITING TO SHOW YOU THE WAY, AS YOU PICK RIGHT BACK UP WHERE YOU LEFT OFF, AS IF NO TIME HAD PASSED. GOD BLESS EACH OF YOU AND KEEP YOU IN HIS CARE, UNTIL THAT DAY. MIKE, YOUR STRENGTH AND BRAVERY THROUGH A TRYING FINAL TEST, HAS LEFT ALL IN AWE OF YOUR INCREDIBLE STRENGTH OF CHARACTER. WITH OUR PRAYERS, GOD SPEED HOME SIR.

It comes with great sadness that I must let go of the man who was like a 2nd father to me over the past few years. I'll forever cherish our inside jokes, his ridiculously fabricated stories to make me laugh, and his incredibly warm and heartfelt hugs he gave me every time I saw him. :) He was one of the strongest men I've ever met and he'll remain close to my heart forever. His legacy lives on through his amazing family and the lasting impression he has left on his community. I'm honoured to have had the chance to spend the time I did with Mike and it's beautiful to know that he's touched so many others as well. Sending so much love to the Broomhead clan. I love you all. xo

I am so sad to hear about Mike passing. When I think about Mike it is more thoughts from my childhood, in Fenelon Falls where our family cottage was. Laughter and lots of activities filled our summers. In later years I settled in the Mt. Forest area where I discovered our mayor was Mike! I'm not surprised. He was blessed with a beautiful family and wonderful wife who helped fill his life with love and happiness. You will be missed Mike, but I'm grateful you are free...
