David "Dave" Hooper

David

HOOPER, David George  – Passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Caressant Care, Arthur in his 68th year. Loving father of Michael Hooper, and father-in-law of Nicole Den Besten and her husband Adam. Loving son of Joan Hooper and the late George Hooper. Dear Grandpa of Zachary-Michael, Matthew, Jimmy-Douglas, and Sara-Lynn and great-grandfather of Axel. Dear brother of Gord Hooper, Alan Hooper and his wife Sandy, Brian Hooper and Heather Armstrong and her husband Ken. Dave is predeceased by his son James “Jimmy” Hooper (2003).

Dave was raised on the family dairy farm in Buttonville (now Markham) Ontario. It was there that he found his need for speed. Racing farm tractors with his brothers, he learned to fix things before Dad found out. He was one of the first to drop a small block Chev into a Vega. The oval bug bit him at the age of 17, and that became his favorite car number. Dave raced at numerous paved ovals in Ontario, until he bought a Super Modified, and later had Jim Belfiore make him a frame. Dave had many ventures in his life from farm boy to operating a trucking company with his father George. As the market changed, so would Dave. He opened a heavy truck tire shop, along with welding and fabrication. Dave was proud to run on The International Super Modified Association tour, as well as the famed Oswego Speedway with his son Mike. Dave's passion for life came out in racing. He was a true racer, surrounded by family whether in the shop or at the track.

Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Dave are asked to consider the Canadian Cancer Society. Private funeral arrangements entrusted to the England Funeral Home, Mount Forest.

I have fond memories of the times I spent on the farm when we were kids and traveling up and down the Trent Waterway to visit each others cottages. Always remember the Corvette, I think it was a 1963, and watching him race at the old Sunset Speedway. My condolences to Aunti Joan and the rest of the family. Rest in Peace Dave!! Cousin John
