Bruce Ira Harper

HARPER, Bruce Ira – Peacefully at Wellington Terrace Long Term Care, Fergus, on Sunday, January 9, 2022 in his 84th year. Beloved husband for 60 years to the late Marlene Harper (née Gillies) (2016). Loving father of Richard Harper of Markham, Debra Harper of London, Dianne and her husband Dan MacEachern of Ayton, Linda and her husband Gary McArthur of Mount Forest, and father-in-law of Betty Fair Harper of Kitchener. Cherished grandfather of Scott (Jenn) MacEachern, Sara Harper, Ryan (Meagan) MacEachern, Joanna (Shane) Gregory, Angelica Harper, Miranda Harper, Brianna McArthur, and Mark McArthur. Dear great-grandfather of Caleb Gregory, Cole Gregory, Maverick MacEachern and Emilia MacEachern. Lovingly remembered by the Gillies family.

Predeceased by his daughter Brenda Harper, son Paul Harper, and brother Grant Harper.

Bruce gave generously of his time to others – giving a hand up to someone in need, volunteering at the curling club, supporting the Louise Marshall Hospital and local food bank. He had many passions – travelling in retirement with Marlene, nights out, dancing, playing cards, fishing up north, hunting with the boys, entertaining neighbours or McGuivering something together to make it work. He was a long-time Toronto Maple Leaf, Blue Jay and Raptor fan, and armchair referee. Bruce was known for having his lawn and gardens in perfect order. Above all, he cherished his family. His memory will live on in their hearts forever.

A private funeral service will be held at the England Funeral Home with spring interment at Mount Forest Cemetery. Extended family and friends are invited to view the service livestream on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. by visiting www.englandfuneralhome.com and clicking on the link below Bruce’s obituary. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation, the local food bank or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

We are so very sad to hear of the passing of Uncle Bruce. He had always been someone I looked up to as a kid and young adult. I will remember his good humor, big voice and laugh, very distinct and memorable. Bruce always had time to talk and offer advice, especially in my younger years which had a positive influence on decisions I have made in my life. It was a blessing to have him in our lives and he will be missed by many of us.
