Jose Fernandez

FERNANDEZ, Jose Pedro Pablo – Peacefully and surrounded by his family at home on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 in his 74th year. Survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Sharon Fernandez (née McQueen). Cherished father of Jordana and her husband Martin Hurley of Barrie, and Chad Fernandez and his wife Kasia Jakarsezian of Toronto. Beloved Grandfather to Ronan, Connell and Seamus Hurley, and Aurelio Fernandez. Dear brother-in-law of Joyce (Kevin) Dinneen and Mark (Norva) McQueen, all of Mount Forest, and Jose Perez of Montevideo, Uruguay. Lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Daniel Perez (Janet) of Toronto; Martin (Paola) Perez and their children Matthew and Ian of Tennessee, U.S.A.; Vivi (Ricardo) Bertola and their daughter Andrea of Montevideo, Uruguay; Giselle Canadas and her son Sebastian of Punta Del Este, Uruguay; Brett (Bree) McQueen of Innerkip; and Jared McQueen and Kendal Runstedler of Drayton. Predeceased by his sisters: Theresa Canadas and her husband Pedro, and Elena Perez.

Jose was born and raised in Montevideo, Uruguay. He grew up surrounded by his loving parents and sisters along with many relatives and friends. He helped his father run their furniture business and attended the University of Montevideo. He played soccer on the Junior Division of Defensor Sporting Club. Jose immigrated to Canada in 1970, three years later meeting the love of his life, Sharon, while working at a Toronto Hospital. Jose and Sharon married in 1974 and moved to Mount Forest in 1985 to raise their children. Jose had an incredible work ethic, always giving his all in everything he did. Self-improvement, furthering his education and learning new languages were very important to him. While in Mount Forest, Jose coached boys and girls’ soccer teams and became well known throughout the community. Jose had many passions – he was as a sports enthusiast, loved soccer, golf, hiking, and fishing with his grandsons. He had a love of music and learning new instruments. Above all, Jose was incredibly dedicated to his family. They will continue to share his passions and his legacy will live on in their hearts forever.

A memorial service will be held at the England Funeral Home, 294 Main Street South, Mount Forest, on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation from 1:00-1:45 p.m. If you are unable to attend the service in person, you are invited to view livestream by visiting www.englandfuneralhome.com and clicking on the link below Jose’s obituary.
