Claire Bence

BENCE, Claire – Peacefully at Waterloo Regional Health Network, on Monday, June 2, 2025, in her 94th year. Claire is predeceased by her husband Galen Bence (2018) and by her first husband Philip Veitch (1993). Loving mother of Susan MacArthur and her husband Dan, Jennifer Newby and her husband Scott and grandmother of Jessica Newby, sister of Paul Allin. Predeceased by sister Norma Howsam and by her parents Murial and Clarence Allin. 

After attending university, Claire became an elementary school teacher. She then stayed home to raise her daughters; later, she worked as an office assistant at several trade shows. Claire enjoyed many summers at the cottage, and relished her time living in Florida. She was particularly fond of travel, whether it was in an RV between Canada and the US, or on a cruise ship to a Caribbean island, on the Rhine, or even in China. She had many talents including sewing, knitting, embroidery, and cooking; her apple pie remains unrivalled. 

We would like to thank the Mount Forest Lions Club and the congregation of the Mount Forest United Church for all their support during this time. 

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, June 28^th at 1:00 p.m., at the England Funeral Home, 294 Main Street South, Mount Forest, followed immediately by a reception and celebration of her life. Interment in Erskine Cemetery, Pickering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Claire are asked to consider the Canadian Cancer Society.
