Thomas John (Jack) Rooney
June 7, 2025

Thomas John (Jack) Rooney passed away on Saturday June 7, 2025 at the Dartmouth General Hospital, Nova Scotia. He was barely one month into his 89th year.
He was predeceased by his parents Velva Mae (née Daley) and Reginald Arthur Rooney, stepfather William (Bill) Lane, brother Art and sister-in-law Donna Rooney, and sisters Gladys and brother-in-law LeRoy Donald, Marie and brother-in-law Raymond Butt, and Dody and brother-in-law Lennie McEachnie. He was also predeceased by his 5-year-old daughter Susan.
He is survived by his wife Eunice, his son Reg, three grandchildren, one great granddaughter, his sister Anna Mae Smith, and “step” brother Ron Lane. Also left to mourn, are his buddies in Nova Scotia, his military comrades, his many dear friends from growing up in Mount Forest, ON and his bazillion nieces, nephews, and cousins who love him to bits!!
Jack was a Royal Canadian Legion Member of Somme Branch #31 in Dartmouth. He loved the Toronto Blue Jays, the Maple Leafs, and playing golf. He was a member of Hartlen Point Forces Golf Course in Shearwater, NS for many years before moving to East Lawrencetown, NS in 2013. A stroke in 2018 left him with a cane to walk with… and golf was no more.
Jack served in the military for 35 years, primarily the RCAF, with the last 17 years at CFB Shearwater going to sea with the Hel Air Detachments.
“To all my fantastic relatives whom I love dearly, you will grieve… but just love each other and remember the good times. I will see you on the other side" – Jack
Eunice and Reg have graciously sent a small cremation urn to Ontario.
A memorial service for Jack will be held on Sunday July 20th at First Baptist Church, 116 Fergus Street North Mount Forest at 3:30 p.m. Following the service, everyone is invited to an Old Fashion Irish Wake at Mark and Cindy Aitken’s Barn, 183322 Grey Road 9, RR #2 Holstein (Southgate Township). Condolences
Rest easy Jack. You were always such a fun person to be around. You will be missed dearly. I hope you have some great rounds of golf with uncle Joe, Richard, Jack and my dad up there in heaven.
— Dwight Dunsmoor, July 12, 2025Dear Family
Jack loved people and lit up every room he entered. He was my older cousin and I loved seeing him at the Joe Daley Annual Golf tournaments in August. He could share the best jokes and always had me in stitches. He was a super nice man. Love, Cousin Pat
