Hilda Maria Seibert
August 5, 2025

SEIBERT, Hilda Maria - Died peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Strathcona Long Term Care, Mount Forest in her 102nd year.
Lovingly remembered by her son Klaus and his wife Rhoda; and by her special friends Brenda and Robert Trommelen, and Betty McLellan. She is predeceased by her husband Paul Seibert (August 31, 2010), her parents Susanna and Adolf Baust, her sister Erna Herzog, and by her brother Peter Baust.
Hilda was born in Nussloch, Germany on April 26, 1924, in the same house where her mother, and her son were born. She and her husband Paul immigrated to Canada in November 1951, with their 1 ½ year old son, Klaus. They settled in the Mount Forest area and started a chicken farm in 1955. Hilda loved to cook, bake, knit, and garden. In the years before chicken farming was profitable, they grew strawberries to supplement their income. One day she picked 1,000 boxes of strawberries. She delighted in feeding the farm help and the neighbours. Her cakes and cream puffs were legendary. She wasn’t accustomed to fruit pies when she arrived in Canada, but realized that she’d have to master the art of pie making, and she quickly did. Her pie crusts were the best, thanks to the help of her friend and neighbour, Agnes McLellan. In her last years, living at Strathcona, she’d dream of making cakes as she sat idly in her chair by the window. Hilda belonged to the Tollgate Community Club, and she hosted wedding showers for everyone in the neighbourhood. When she and Paul retired in 1987, they moved to Egremont Street in Mount Forest. They enjoyed winters at their home in Naples, Florida until 2001.
A special thank you to the staff at Strathcona Long Term Care, for their wonderful care, and to all her friends who visited her over the years.
Visitation will be held at the England Funeral Home, 294 Main Street South, Mount Forest, on Sunday, August 10th from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. John's Evangelical-Lutheran Church, 146 Sligo Road West, Mount Forest on Monday, August 11th at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Interment at Mount Forest Cemetery. Dear Klaus and Rhoda, Our prayers and love are with you as you lost your precious Mom. I have been gone from Mount Forest 60 years when I went to Ryerson to study Fashion Design and married Herb Woods in 1967. Yes it is Barbara Langdon and my memory of your Mom and Dad is a very special. I remember when my Mom and Dad sold the property beside our house and watch your parents build their gorgeous house. What wonderful friends your parents became to my Mom and Dad. We have lived in 6 cities but always came home for fun times with your parents. When we moved back from Saskatoon in 1988, Ted (our son) was 13 and we lived with Mom and Dad until we got our new home in Ottawa. Herb was working in Ottawa and came to Mount Forest on weekends. Mom wanted me clean the basement.....we put give away items out on the curb everyday and the Mennonites came everyday to take the piles. We had GRAND neighbourhood party that summer and your Dad cooked chickens and all the neighbour brought salads and desserts. It was a special time for me to have that fabulous time with my Mom and Dad. Your Dad took our family to tour your chicken barns and teach about the cycle from chicks to full grown birds. We sat in our backyard and talked for hours. My personal thanks to your parents for treating them with such kindness in their final years. Mom (2002) and Dad (2004) loved your parents so much and I wanted you to know how special your family has been in our times coming home to Mount Forest. What a wonderful long life your Mom had and we were always welcomed when we would visit. We retired to St Catharines 10 years ago this month and we love it so much. Please feel our hugs around you this week as you honour your very special Mom Hilda. Love, Barbara Langdon
May your cherished memories bring you comfort.
