Rosemary "Rope" Turner
December 14, 2025

TURNER, Rosemary (née Stoneouse) Died peacefully at Strathcona Long Term Care, Mount Forest on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at the age of 80 years. She was the beloved wife of Peter for 58 years, dear mother of Mike (Michelle), cherished sister of Marg Rapp (Ron) and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Alex and Lovina, and sisters Bessie, Jessie Mae, Jean Sandra, and brother, Marty.
Rope, as she was known to her family and friends, grew up on the family farm in Glenelg Township where chores had to be done before rushing off to catch the school bus. In her youth, she played basketball and the bass drum for the Durham Girls Marching Band. Rope left home at the tender age of 16 to work for Dominion Life in Waterloo. Her various jobs took her to Toronto where she worked in the office of an electric motor manufacturer, back to Waterloo where she was an owner/operator and head installer for two car stereo shops and eventually, a steam presser for a Kitchener shirt manufacturer.
When Peter and Rope moved to Mount Forest some 30 years ago, she turned her painting and drawing hobbies into a personalized sign business which proved so successful she couldn’t keep up with the orders. A self-made lady of independent means, she drove herself to her driver’s test from Toronto to Kitchener in 1964. Rope was a true Renaissance woman, a friend to all, and proved to be a font of information on a wide variety of topics. She was the first call many of us made when we had a problem to fix. She was a wonderful neighbour and golf partner to the folks around her place on Albert Street, always welcoming passersby with an open door and a drink offer as well as the neighbours' dogs with a biscuit or two. She was a longtime volunteer with Waterloo Minor Boys Softball, the Mount Forest Community Pantry, and the Mount Forest Panthers ladies softball team. Rope was a life-long Blue Jays fan who truly understood the nuances of baseball. And, man, could she ever put together a batting order and defensive lineup! We shall miss her calming presence, her razor-sharp wit, her plethora of knowledge and her buns. Oh, Rope’s buns!
A celebration of her life will be held in the spring, details will be announced. The family would like to thank the staff at Louise Marshall Hospital and Strathcona Long Term Care for their excellent care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, please raise a glass of wine in honour of Rope. England Funeral Home, Mount Forest entrusted with arrangements.
