Bev Agnew

AGNEW, Beverley Wayne “Bev” - Of Mount Forest, passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday January 8, 2026 at the age of 77.

Loving “step-father” to Shiela (Wayne) McLean, Charlene (Grant) Stewart, and Ed (Gloria) Wilson. Grandpa to Tim McLean (Kristina), Christina Lancaster (Kegan), Cody Stewart, Justin Stewart, Tyler Stewart (Alex), Josh Wilson, and Jake Wilson (Maddie). Great-Grampa to Owen, Alexis, Merrick, Ezra, Adelaide, Chloe, Tyson, and Oliver. Bev is survived by his sister Doris Jarvis, brother Donald Agnew, and sister-in-law Helen Agnew. A Special “Uncle Pete” to several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his wife Patricia Agnew (2019), infant granddaughter Angela McLean, siblings Lois, Milton, Clayton, Betty, Audrey, Doreen, Ross, Wallace, Shirley, and Islay.

Bev was known for his athletic skills on the ice - playing broomball with the Conn Men and Hopeville, and refereeing for many years in Mount Forest and Dundalk. He enjoyed playing baseball for Hopeville, hunting, fishing and many golf trips to the sunny south. Bev was a familiar face around MapleFest for many years, helping with the WWI Biscuit Hut. He loved a good road trip, long or short, to tour around and see the countryside or the always necessary trip to Costco – just because. After he started to experience some health issues, he still enjoyed a nice sunny day for a drive. Even if it was just to Tim Horton’s to get coffee or to go to Giant Tiger in Shelburne, his favourite store next to Costco. Bev also liked to “stir the pot” and get everyone going with a comment or two, but always with a twinkle in his eye.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bev’s life will be held in the spring. Details are being finalized and will be announced through the funeral home website. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Woodland Springs Women’s Institute or a charity of your choice. Condolences

To Bev’s Family - My husband and I met Bev thru our neighbours shortly after moving here in 2018. A kind, funny, caring man. We had a couple of neighbours for dinner and Bev was able to come a few times and enjoyed games night at our place. We both were very sorry to hear about Bev’s passing. Prayers for all of his family.

Our Deepest Condolences and Sympathy to
All the families.
We meet Bev talking over our fence.when we first into the neighbourhood.
One day I got a call from Bev asking if we
we’re missing a dog I replied No. Bev then
Said Gummy was at his house. We had no idea that Gumby was missing until
Bev called. He told me Gumby walked up
To the front door. He then let Gumby in and called us as he knew we had a whippet dog .
I had been to Bev’s house a few times walking
With Gumby so he some how remembered the house.Thank Goodness he did. Gumby
was a puppy at the time. Thank God for Bev
seeing him in his driveway and letting him
In. We had many talks and the passing of food
over the fence.
Bev was a great man we loved our visits over the fence just talking about everyday
life. He will truly be missed.

I am so saddened to learn of the passing of Bev. A sweet and gentle man I got to know when he would cut the grass on our Sideroad and chase the attack of our grosbeak. We would always have a lengthy conversation about nothing. I will truly miss our weekly visits. Thoughts and prayers are with the family. May he rest in peace.
