Rick Sinnamon

SINNAMON, Richard “Rick” - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Husband, Dad and Poppa, Richard Kenneth Sinnamon while vacationing with his family in Mexico on Friday, February 13, 2026.

Rick is survived by his wife Patty (née Grantham) of 44 years; sons Andrew (Bern) and Shawn (Megan) Sinnamon, and daughter Michelle Matheson (Andrew); and his seven grandchildren whom he loved so dearly: Nathaniel, Theo and Callum Sinnamon, Hunter and Rowan Sinnamon, and Kiera and Mackenzie Matheson. Rick was the eldest son of Robert (deceased) and Arlene Sinnamon. He will be greatly missed by his brothers Wayne (Nancy), Brock (Linda) and Brad, as well as sister-in-law Mary Jayne Gosnell (George). Rick will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family members in Northern Ireland, and many dear friends.

Rick retired as a Staff Sergeant with the Ontario Provincial Police in 2012, having served in various detachments as well as the Contract Policing Branch over his 33-year career before retiring from the Grey Bruce Detachment in Chatsworth.

Rick wasn’t one to sit and watch the world go by – he got involved in his community in many organizations. He was an active member in Mount Forest Lions Club and previously Exeter Lions, and in 2011 was presented with a Melvin Jones Fellow award from Lions International, the highest honour given to a Lions Club Member. He was also a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Mount Forest Branch 134.

He served on the Mount Forest Minor Hockey Executive for many years, and certainly long after Andrew and Shawn no longer played in the minor league. He served as the Ice Convenor for about 15 years. Rick was currently serving on the Mount Forest Patriots executive and loved cheering on the local team. One of his biggest accomplishments was his participation on the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex Building and Fundraising Committees, ensuring that Mount Forest had a new state of the art recreation facility for the community to enjoy for generations to come.

Rick co-chaired the Mount Forest District High School Parent Council along with his good friend Dave Moran at a time when the community faced having the school closed. He and Dave were instrumental in not only keeping the high school in Mount Forest, but having a brand-new school built, an effort that garnered his recognition as Mount Forest Citizen of the Year in 2000.

His community leadership didn’t stop there. He also served on the Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation for several years including in the capacity as Chairman. In 2016 he served on the Wellington County Plowing Match Committee.

Above all of these wonderful accomplishments, his greatest joy was his family. He and Patty were blessed to travel extensively throughout Europe, the United Kingdom, Caribbean and the U.S. They also travelled to Ireland on several occasions to visit with Rick’s extended family. He was so very proud of his three children, and to add seven grandchildren to the family circle was beyond anything he imagined. He beamed so proudly at every one of Kiera’s dance recitals and attended countless hockey, lacrosse, baseball and soccer games to watch his grandsons play. Spending time at the cottage in Severn Bridge meant quality time with family. He loved to anchor the boat on Lake Couchiching or Sparrow Lake and jump in with the kids.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6th from 1:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Mount Forest & District Sports Complex, 850 Princess Street, Mount Forest, where the celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Saturday, March 7th at 11:00 a.m. Following, all are invited to remain at the hall for refreshments and fellowship. Spring interment at Mount Forest Cemetery. If you are unable to attend the service in person, you are invited to view livestream by clicking on the link below.

Memorial donations may be made to Mount Forest United Church, Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation, or a local minor sports organization of your choice. Donations and online condolences may be made at www.englandfuneralhome.com

I remember Richard in high school. A great guy. Very intelligent. Doing science project at Mitchell District High School. He reminded me today. Of Sheldon Cooper on the hit series ( Big Bang Theory). I wanted to visit him in Mount Forest. A friend of his Roger Brodhagen. Provided me with his phone number. This kind soul will be missed. I had the pleasure of interacting with him in the later years. When he was a OPP near Mitchell. We connected. And talked about old times. Gosh it was nice to see him.He will be missed. My thoughts and strong prayers go out to Patty, Shawn, Andrew and Michelle.
I first met Rick when we moved to Mount Forest in 1990, I had just left Peel Police and was looking for a job, applied to OPP and Rick hired me over the phone, As the Sergeant in the CommCentre he was the most outstanding and upstanding person I had ever worked with. I remember vividly that if we were disrespected by anyone, public or officers, Rick had our backs, sometimes even before he investigated the call, he had so much faith and trust in his Dispatchers that we were top tier to him. This set the stage of course for us to do our best and never prove him wrong. A personal story, my 5 year old daughter had a bike accident and I had to leave work and rush her to the hospital, Rick called her father and let him know, covered my shift and checked on us all the time coming to the hospital, he needed to know that she was safe and ok. Rick was my Sergeant but moreover he was my friend. My daughter and Shawn were in the same group of friends in school, we socialized together and Patty was always amazing and all about family.
Mount Forest Comm Centre closed and unfortunately we had to move.
Rick, you were meant to cross my path to enhance my life and my families lives and for that I thank you and will never make your memory fade.
All my love Dawn and Danielle xox

— Dawnshearer (Vandenbrink), March 3, 2026

I worked with Rick when I was in Owen Sound in the 1980’s and 90’s. Eventually our careers moved us further away. We did continue to cross paths several times throughout and I was always met with a smile and we had some laughs. He was one of those people that when someone said “Do you know Rick Sinnamon?”, a smile would come to our faces before response, as it did on the awful day of his passing before hearing the news that was to follow. Rick was a very kind man, a gentleman and a leader. Our condolences to Patty and family for their tremendous loss.
John and Kim Kendrick

— John Kendrick, March 3, 2026

I first met Rick at Fanshawe College in 1977 we were both in the Law and Security Administration program together for 2 years! We nicknamed him “Spice” because of his last name lol! He was a great guy then and now after reading his Obituary and seeing all the amazing things he did I am proud to have known him!! We lost touch due to being on different Police forces in different areas! It is nice to see that he had a great life and was well loved and was surrounded by an amazing family! He will be missed!! My condolences to his wonderful family it is tough to lose someone you love so much but I am sure you will keep his memory alive and that will bring you comfort! God Bless!!

— Robert Cann, March 2, 2026

I was very saddened to hear of Rick’s sudden passing. I first came to know him through his work with the Ontario Provincial Police, when I was working in the forensic identification unit and would often cross paths with him in that capacity. He was always professional, well respected, and carried himself in a way that reflected great pride in his role as an officer.

In retirement, I had the opportunity to know him on a more personal level, where his friendliness and genuine nature truly stood out. His commitment and dedication to community was to be admired. He will be greatly missed, not only by those who served alongside him, but by the community as a whole. My sincere condolences to you and your family during this difficult time.

— Chantelle Beirnes, March 2, 2026

Dear Patty, Andrew, Shawn, Michelle and families,

I was shocked upon learning of Rick’s tragic passing. The time I spent working with him in Exeter and interacting with your entire family is full of great memories and many laughs together. His first day returning home in Exeter as a shiny new Sgt with a supporting cast of “characters” camped out on your front yard still makes me smile.
Rick was a gentleman and as evidenced by his obituary, he was a true public servant who left everyone he dealt with a little better having spent time with him.

Unfortunately, I am out of the country and unable to attend in person this weekend. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

We have lost a very good man….

— Wayne Burke, March 2, 2026

Dear Patty and Family: It wasn't that long ago Rick attended the funeral of my own Father. We exchanged a pleasant conversation and much of what was said has stuck with me.
