MAAS, Wilhelmina Catharina “Mien” – Passed away peacefully and surrounded by the love of her family on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, just shy of her 97th birthday.
Predeceased by her cherished husband, Johannes “John” Maas (1990). Loving mother of Wilma (Doug) McLean, Joanne (Glen) Alexander, Wally (Allison) Maas, Cathy (Frank) Higdon, Frank Maas, and Tony (Carol) Maas; and mother-in-law of Sandra Maas. Predeceased by her beloved son, Johannes “John” Maas (2026). Loved Oma of Terry, Andrew, Corry, Ginny, Amanda, Ashley, Adam, Tiffani, Cody, Travis, Kristen, Alyssa, Dana, Lee and Esi, and their partners; and great-Gramma of 17. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Wilma was predeceased by her parents, Wilhelmus and Wilhelmina Van Lith, five sisters, seven brothers, and eight brothers and sisters-in-law.
Wilma was the second youngest of 13 children and was born and raised in Nistelrode, the Netherlands. She married Jan “John” in 1954, and their honeymoon brought her to Canada—first to Pickering, then to the family farm in Kenilworth, and following John’s passing in 1990, to Mount Forest. Wilma built a new life surrounded by family and friends, enjoying travelling, playing cards, and attending church.
At the age of 90, Wilma moved to Birmingham Lodge, where she lived for five years, before moving to Strathcona Long Term Care for her final two years. Wilma’s family would like to thank the staff at both homes for the care, kindness, and friendship shown to her.
Visitation will be held at the England Funeral Home, 294 Main Street South, Mount Forest, on Monday, August 17th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 9141 Highway 6, Kenilworth, on Tuesday, August 18th at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Following, all are invited to the church hall for refreshments and fellowship. Those wishing to view a recording of the Funeral Mass are welcome to click on the link below.

I want to pass on my condolences. Wilma was such a lovely person. Salt of the earth. And she raised a beautiful family. Her legacy absolutely lives on through you all. I have a very favorite recipe of her cabbage rolls that I love to make that she submitted into a catholic recipe book and I think of her every time I make them. I got to know Wilma well when I started working at "Go Figure ". She was a faithful participant. Always coming in with her quiet smile and she would brighten the room. Thinking of you all. ❤️

I was very sad to hear of your moms passing. She was such a nice soft spoken lady. I so enjoyed our visits in the past days when she lived on Waterloo St. I used to go to her home to do her pedicures. She loved her family dearly and loved to share stories about them.
