Sidney Smith
Sid Smith passed away suddenly on December 20, 2017 at Louise Marshall Hospital, Mount Forest at the age of 79.  Sid was a father of four, grandfather of eight, and a great grandfather of five.  Remembered by his daughter Jackie and her children Jeremy “Bud Bud”, Jennifer “Cheeky”, and Andrew “Andy Pandy”. Dad made nicknames for the grandchildren, and there was not as day that he actually called them by their given names. Sid will be missed by his daughters Jackie, Rhonda and Son Mickey. Sid was Grandfather to Trevor, Jeremy, Jennifer, Andrew, Matthew, Michael, Kyle and Rhiannan.Sid was predeceased by his wife and the mother of his children Sylvia. Also predeceased by his daughter Heather (2003), brothers Shirley, Dave, Johnny and sister Joyce.

Over the last ten years Dad found love and happiness with Gail Downie “Darling” also her daughter Kathy, son-in-law Mike and granddaughters Megan “Megger” and Samantha. Dad became part of Gail’s family as they spent many occasions together. Dad cared for several animals and he will be especially missed by his dog Skipper.

Dad was a one of a kind. He loved to move, and I can’t count how many towns in Ontario he has lived in over the years. He never forgot his friends, with the stories he told about long time special friend Bill Nicol.  I remember their competition of who would wake who first on Boxing Day. Dad would often share memories over the years of his two friends both named Ken.

Dad and Gail were inseparable over the last ten years. The month prior to his passing Gail was in and out of hospital. Dad was never one to enter the hospital, just drop off and pick up. Gail shared Dads last day as she was out of the hospital and while resting Dad went shopping and surprised her with a little Christmas tree. They were excited to spend their first Christmas in their new apartment. Gail was shocked later when he requested to go to the hospital but didn’t want Gail to go as he didn’t want her sick, shortly after to receive the call he had passed.

A special thank you to the caring and understanding staff at the England Funeral Home.

Sid, Dad, Sonny, grandpa and great-grandpa he was them all. Sid/Dad you will be missed by your family, and friends. Private family visitation and cremation have taken place with a celebration of Sid’s life to be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
