Dear Sue. Shocked to hear about Martin. Just saw him recently at No Frills buying candy for himself (apparently his only weakness) and flowers for you because he was in the dog house again!! Such a kind, caring person. He will be missed. Hugs

Dear Sue, Marty and Matthew, sister Corrie and her daughters, brother Bert and his wife Jeanine, and all family and friends, Everything which is normal, suddenly changes when your beloved one passes away. Unbelievable, unacceptable. Yet you have to accept, yet you have to believe. We met Martin twice, the first time when we stayed with our kids at Bert and Jeanine's place in 2006 and again in 2007 When Diane and I visited Canada again. Both times we discovered that Martin was a nice, gentile, central figure in the family party that is called 'life', We hope that the same family and their friends hold each other in these sad days. Let Martin be remembered as the beloved man he was for all of you. Best wishes for you all, Diane and Leon

Sue and family. My sincerest condolences to you all. Martin was a great neighbor and friend. It's said that by our works we are known, and the work that Martin did for so many of us is testimony to his honesty, skill and dedication. The man was not afraid of hard work. We are going to miss the neighborhood philosophical and political insights so very much - not to mention the humorous ones. My deepest sympathies. Terry Rothwell.

I am so sad to hear of Martin's sudden passing. He was a wonderful happy, friendly and kind gentleman. The quality of his workmanship was #1 and done to perfection. He was a hard worker and worked in all kinds of inclement weather. He had integrity and honesty and had a quick wit. He always stopped to say hello when we met on the street. His passing is a real loss to anyone who knew him.

— Linda Pehlke, June 19, 2017
