Douglas Lorne McLellan
McLELLAN, Douglas Lorne - It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected death of Doug at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at 68 years young.  Loving husband of Diane (Strangway) for 41 years.  Doug was the proud father of Michael (Meghan).  He adored and cherished his grandchildren Kaiden and Quinn Grace.  Doug is survived by his sisters Edith (Grant) Fotheringham, Wendy (Jeff) Smeltzer and Betty McLellan, and sister-in-law Donna (Glen) Dougan.  Predeceased by his parents Wilbert and Agnes (Ivel), parents-in-law Cliff and Alice (Charlick) Strangway, and brother-in-law John and Janie (Bartley) Strangway. Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and friends.  Doug was a gifted Salesman for MDL Doors and always enjoyed talking to his clients.  He was devoted to his community serving on Council for the former Arthur Township for four years and also as Reeve for two years.  Doug sat on the Wellington County Land Division committee for several years and was co-chair on the committee to build the new Sports Complex in Mount Forest.  Doug coached baseball and hockey when his son played.  He also coached the Senior Girls Hockey Team winning Gold in the Walter Gretzky tournament and the OWHA ‘C’ Championship.  He loved going to Home Hardware shows, playing euchre with the seniors and Shuffleboard.  He knew how to have fun!  Cremation has taken place.  Due to Covid-19, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation or Cancer Patient Services.  Arrangements entrusted to the England Funeral Home, Mount Forest.

Thirty-eight years ago, we met Doug at Save-Way Lumber, one of the first people we met here. He helped us in so many ways -- found trades people for us, got us an account at Save-Way (and later at Lloyd Stewart), introduced us to people, and got us involved with the Arthur Township community. We have been grateful to him ever since, and still are. We are shocked and saddened by his untimely passing; we'll never forget him. Rosemary & Raymond

— Rosemary & Raymond, December 29, 2020

Doug was truly the "Anchor" of our tug-of-was team circa 1978. The Arthur Township team faced the Toronto Police team at the CNE and faced the revered Newtex Giants from Kitchener many times. We won our share and showed them all what our community was about. This was only one of the many examples of the spirit and leadership Doug brought to so many things in life. Our sympathy is extended to Diane, Michael and the whole McLellan family on the sudden passing of a great friend and neighbour. Sincerely, Allen & Betty Lou Kirkpatrick, on behalf of many

Maxine and I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to you Diane and your family. We were shocked to hear of Doug’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with Doug dating back to our days together at Saveway/Beaver Lumber. Our paths continued to cross over the years as we both worked in the building industry. I always looked forward to catching up with Doug and enjoying his take on life. His sense of humour and genuine interest in others will be missed. One of the “good guys” for sure. From our very first encounter, at a pool meeting, I knew I had met a very special man. Kind, funny, and devoted to superb customer service. A true titan in our industry. He will be sadly missed by many dealers, like me who also were lucky enough over the yeas to become his friend. And sadly missed by a family that I know by the way he spoke about them, that he loved very much. Rest In Peace. Ron, Frankie, Adam, Brett Nickel Walkerton Timbrmart
