To Irwin's family, I had the priviledge of working with Irwin at Mount Forest Public School back in 1988-9. He was a custodian. I was a first year teacher. There were some strange politics going on with the staff at that time, and after a particularly difficult encounter with someone, Irwin quietly listened to me vent and offered me a piece of advice based on his time spent in the infantry. He said, if someone orders you to do something that you disagree with, you respond,"Yes sir, right away, sir." But don't do it. Chances are it wasn't that important anyway. On the other hand, if that person comes back and and still wants the task done, you respond, "I was just about to do that" - and do it. I've kept that little memory of Irwin with me for many years. I hope that you all have many fond memories and stories to share with each other. He was an exceptional man, and I know he will be missed. Nancy Ross Goderich

Irene, Bill, Laurie, Brenda and families. We are thinking of you all at this time. I know the last few years have been difficult, but with the wheelchair van and help of his family, Irwin was very fortunate to be able to go to different functions (yes, I kept up with his "outings" via the Mt. Forest Confederate!!) His talks about the War to the Public School students was always something the kids talked about. I had the honour to care for Irwin while he was in the Hospital. I heard many of those stories. We also shared many laughs. Please accept our sympathy on the loss of Irwin--your Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather. I saw Uncle Irwin about 2 weeks ago - he opened his eyes and asked 'how are things in Pembroke?' That pretty much speaks to the gregarious nature of a man who was a good Canadian, farmer, soldier, husband, brother, father, uncle and friend. I am glad you were our uncle - you will be missed. Your niece, JoAnne
