Meagan Byers

BYERS, Meagan Janelle – Tragically, as the result of a car accident on Monday, December 6, 2021, at the age of 22 years. Beloved daughter of Mark and Joanne Byers. Cherished sister of Ashley Byers and her partner Brock Doney, and Justin Byers and his wife Becca. Proud Aunt “Bug” of Brooklynn and Lennox Doney. Meagan will be missed by her good friend Travis Lee, and her dog Marlow. Loving granddaughter of Leslie and Virginia Byers, and Ronald Weber and his friend Marion Officer. Predeceased by her infant brother, Brendan, Grandma Yvonne Weber, Aunt Janice Bye, and cousins Mason Bye and Suzy Quesnel. Meagan is remembered with love by her aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and many friends.

Meagan was a dedicated coach with Mount Forest Minor Hockey and Mount Forest Minor Baseball. She played baseball and hockey in Mount Forest, Durham and surrounding areas. She was a member of the Mohawk College Softball Team. Meagan was in the process of obtaining her Early Childhood Education Diploma and loved to rave about her “kids” for whom she cared. She touched the lives of so many with her infectious laugh, smile, outgoing personality and big blue eyes. Words cannot express how much she is loved and will be missed.

Visitation will be held at the England Funeral Home, 294 Main Street South, Mount Forest, on Saturday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Mount Forest United Church, 175 Queen Street East, Mount Forest, on Monday, December 13, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Spring interment will take place at Cochrane Cemetery, Mount Forest.

Condolences

To the Byers family,
Thank you for allowing the funeral service to be extended virtually. It was simply beautiful to be able to share in the memories of your family. Meagan was our first contact at the daycare and she was such a bright light and our toddler, Christian took a liking to 'Miss Meagan' as they played peek a boo. I am so very sorry to you all and although the time we knew Meagan was not nearly long enough, the connection was so large which I believe speaks to how truly special Meagan was as an individual. I pray that Meagan's spirit, strength, and precious memories you all have of her help you all take one step each day through the coming weeks, months, and years as she watches from above shining most brightly. So long dear Meagan, thank you for all of the blessings you shared.
With much love and warmth,
Melanie Mostacci

Dear Byer Family,

We are saddened by the news of Meagan's passing, and are so sorry for your loss. We did not know Meagan well, but in the short encounters we had with her as we dropped our son Renan to and from daycare, and listened to his stories about his days with Meagan, we can say with certainty that Meagan was a bright, fun, and caring individual in his life, for even a short time. We remember Renan coming home excited and suddenly able to do "exploding nucks", a special handshake, which Meagan and he did. He also always recounted Meagan playing music or dancing (as in the picture below on the pajama day she organized). She was definitely one of his favourites!

We wanted to let you know that we chose to commemorate Meagan with a special ornament on our Christmas tree, chosen by Renan. He chose a sun ornament to remember Meagan by, which we felt was perfectly fitting for her bright personality and smile. We never entered or left the YMCA building without Meagan greeting us. You could tell she truly did love 'her kids' and was genuinely interested in their families too.

We thank Meagan for caring for our son in her special way. She will be truly missed.

Sincerely,
Brittany & Daniel Carmo

Mark and family,
Mark I'm not sure if you remember our rides to ONA meetings in Guelph many years ago, but I do and I was reminded of them today. Those were quiet rides, you didn't have much to say.
I also remember meeting Meagan about 2 years ago and what I remember the most is her bubbly, chatty personality. The big smile and beautiful eyes stood out and she filled the room. Ashley was there too and she let Meagan run the show.
Hearing so much about your daughter today made me think about what a beautiful relationship you both must have had. How this quiet man and his firecracker daughter must have fit so perfectly together.
Remember that Mark, all of you. Those memories, and the lessons that firecracker taught all of you in her short 22 years. Thank you for sharing your memories of her and your love of her to our community today.

She came as a gift ...A girl with eyes and a smile larger than life! Someone who has done more in her lifetime at 22 vs many who live a long life... this is Meagan. She lived through struggles and came out on top. She was a pleasure to know, to watch, to coach and to play softball with. We are heartbroken for your family - words don’t fix this loss for you. Know that we are all better people to have known Meagan- thank you for sharing her with us.
May God give you many more blessings that will share she is still with you....
We are a phone call away. Big hugs!

— Bart Penwarden, December 11, 2021

My heart is broken.... to put it bluntly!

First time I met Megz in my Grade 9 class she introduced herself to me as "Ashley's little sister". Although the introduction wasn't necessary (Genetics 101) I was so impressed with how she defined herself, and in my humble opinion, she was more different than Ashley and Justin. In a good way!! Megz always challenged us to learn more and then more.... and often said, "what if" which showed me she had a high level of critical thinking skills!! Throughout out times together, she had an exuberant zest for completing her assignments. Megz was a conscientious thinker and a doer of even the most mundane tasks, "just because".

My son's Simon's candle continues to shine brightly for those who .. and my personal recollection of the "Megz" will live on forever and continue to remind me of "thinking about positive stuff". Simon and Brock both pursued similar academics, and Megz was always a an integral part of their program planing!

On a more personal note... I will miss the often "hey, that's awesome" messages on Facebook and mostly I'll miss seeing her bubbly/smiling face on my feed.
